Promoted based on leading areas effectively in synchrophasor technology and voltage stability analysis (VSA) toward development and supporting control room, became an SME (subject matter expert) in EMS applications. Led Synchrophasor technology developments in Forced Oscillation Detection and Source Locating, LSE (Liner State Estimation) and PMU data quality improvement. Tasked to continue leading department efforts and provided guidance to (3) junior engineers and (2) summer interns. • Provided expert support to control room on various EMS applications and other advanced reliability study tasks • Co-developed and implemented real-time Forced Oscillation Detection and Source Locating tool in Production system, which detected and analyzed several forced oscillation events in Western Interconnection • Promoted and presented Peak’s work on PMU technologies and RT-VSA at IEEE GM, NASPI, WECC JSIS, etc. • Assisted and mentored junior engineers on their daily work.

Promoted due to excellent previous performance, established and promoted PMU applications, solid control room support and led efforts of PMU data quality improvement in Western Interconnection, played leading role on RT-VSA, and excellent work on modeling and analyzing RAS (Remedial Action Scheme). Tasked with greater responsibility and leading additional projects as needed. • Improved significantly PMU data availability in Western Interconnection by managing internal resources and coordinating with external entities. Charged Peak Reliability Synchrophasor Data Quality Monthly meeting, participants included engineers and IT supports among all western interconnection utilities • Led RT-VSA, successfully developed and implemented enhancements of RT-VSA with vendor, guiding junior engineers and interns on RTVSA related works, coordinated meetings with external entities (CAISO, SDGE, CEN) on real-time operating voltage stability limit analysis • Supported RC (Reliability Coordinator) and ROE (Real-time Operation Engineer) on various operational and study tasks.

Headhunted to work on PMU applications, as not previously used, and supported control room operations (includes EMS and other advanced applications). Contributed much sooner than management expected.• Coordinated efforts on improving PMU data availability and quality within Peak and with external entities (18 largest utilities in Western Interconnection, like BPA, PG&E, SDG&E) • Modeled RAS for RTCA (contingency analysis) in EMS. • Troubleshooted on EMS issues reported by control room (state estimation, contingency analysis, system modeling, etc.).

Develop PMU applications, integrate new PMU applications with existing Alstom e-terra EMS suites, and work on R&D project sponsored by US Department of Energy. • Developed new PMU applications on offline engineering analysis, tested, and improved Alstom power system software products for utility customers• Enhanced existing EMS software with advanced PMU applications, which achieved better situation awareness and assisted control room decision making for electric power system operators. • Excelled working with customers. Led efforts on several projects with ISO-NE, PG&E, AESO to implement, enhance existing Alstom PMU applications in the control room

Developed deep experience in power system stability analysis during his graduate studies. The title of the PhD thesis is “Power System Distributed Oscillation Detection Based on Synchrophasor Data”. Developed and improved several algorithms to perform oscillation detection using Synchrophasor data. One of the new methods developed was Distributed Frequency Domain Optimization (DFDO). It is based on a two level (substation – control center) scheme frequency domain optimization algorithm. Developed a new distributed structure to implement and transplant many other applications to meet desire of power industry with galloping increasing number of PMUs been installed every year. Headed Oscillation Monitoring System (OMS) for WSU GridSim Project since Oct. 2009 until graduation. GridSim is a real-time simulator for testing PMU applications with real-time responses of large-scale power system including power grid dynamics and communication network. GridSim was founded by US Department of Energy.Developed and implemented WSU OMS for many utilities / organizations in United States and abroad. Some customers includes Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), Entergy, Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), and Idaho Power.

Perform research on transmission line protection in power system• Developed algorithms for power system transmission line simulation. Implemented it on performing transmission line simulation with inputs as transmission line geometric data and other information in Pi and Burgeon model. The work meets and exceeds the scope of the short summer internship.
