Looking back, it’s evident that a career in sustainability was the right path for me. Even as a child, anthropogenic climate change overwhelmed and depressed me. I loved nature (and polar bears) and I hated the large-scale destruction I witnessed humans inflicting upon our fragile planetary home. However, as I aged, a realization dawned upon me— I could be part of the solution. I relish my work, situated at the intersection of humans and nature, knowing that what I dedicate myself to does indeed impact the environment. So many people, including many environmentalists, believe that humankind’s relationship with nature is purely extractive and destructive. I know this to be false. I’ve seen a bruised watershed blossom into a healthy riparian zone as the result of dedicated restoration work informed by science and executed with grit. I’ve spent many evenings watching bees and other pollinators feasting in farm fields, enjoying the same crops my family does. With my degree in Environmental Studies, and my extensive experience in organic farming, I have the background to excel in sustainability. My diverse skillset naturally lends itself to project management and adaptive problem-solving. As a lifelong athlete on competitive sports teams, I am equally at home leading groups and working on a team. I am a critical thinker and a natural achiever, never stopping until the project is done, regardless of what is required. Working in defense of the environment requires the best we have to offer; I am glad to dedicate myself to the field of sustainability. You can reach me at: alexode0@gmail.com
