Project Engineering ManagerCostain Group Plc Sep 2024 - PresentManchester, England, United Kingdom -
Design ManagerStantec Jul 2023 - Sep 2024Warrington, England, United KingdomI was a Project Technical Lead on schemes for Northumbrian Water (NWL) and United Utilities (UU). Working on the Better Rivers framework for UU, I led design teams in production of the full suite of design documents and drawings, designing additional storage, wetland and sustainable drainage solutions to alleviate issues with Combined Sewer Overflows spilling too much. I provided design team and programme management, scopes of works, deliverable schedules and project programmes. For Northumbrian Water, I led a team providing technical advice regarding delivering on Water Quality Monitoring Drivers as required under the Environment Act 2021. -
Design Engineering ManagerEdina Jul 2020 - Jul 2023Stockport, England, United KingdomI was responsible for all Civil, Mechanical & Electrical Design across the UK, together with some projects in ROI, NI and India. I had a team of 9 engineers, and managed design on around 25 projects, ranging from £500,000 to £10m.
I managed the team through the use of schedules, which included all key deliverables for a project, along with the required timescales for completion. I updated these schedules in line with the project programmes issued by the project managers, and ensured that all key contractual dates were met. I also made sure that all required specifications for procurement were completed in a timely manner, with a keen eye on the required budget.
I closely monitored the training & experience requirements of my team, so that all of their career development needs were met. Several of my team were working towards chartership with a relevant body, and I provided support and references where necessary.
I played a key role in the assessment of the UKCA marking requirements of the Edina product. I selected the applicable directives, and developed a list of required designated standards. From each designated standard I listed out the required criteria for the Edina product to meet, and then put in place any necessary design changes. -
Mechanical Design EngineerEdina Mar 2020 - Jul 2020Stockport, England, United KingdomPerformed mechanical 3D, process design and calculations on multiple projects and installations. Familiar with G99 & G100 standards, and learnt new modelling software in AutoCad 3D and Revit. -
Projects Design EngineerGreenbank Technology Limited Sep 2019 - Mar 2020Blackburn, United KingdomI designed a modular can washer in 3D Inventor. I performed process calculations, generated a P&ID, and sized pumps and pipework. -
Design CoordinatorBridges Electrical Engineers Ltd Jul 2016 - Sep 2019RadstockI coordinated mechanical and electrical designs through on a £60m M&E Framework with Sutton and East Surrey Water. My role was to develop gateway zero documents from the client into tangible deliverable lists for the design and delivery teams. I provided all basis of design information required, including P&ID, valve and instrument specification, proposed location details, and how to integrate with the existing systems. I reviewed and commented on the designs in line with CDM regs, and in conjunction with the client, keeping an eye on the project programme dates. I submitted RFI documents for any outstanding information required, following up for responses. I provided risk assessments on proposals, and advised on any blockers, suggesting solutions where possible. I used Business collaborator software for document control. In the back end of 2018, I was managing through mechanical pipework changes on site at Crossness Sewage Treatment Works. The civils installation dimensions were different to the design documentation Bridges were provided. I engaged the site teams to assess the issues, identify the pipe changes required, and come up with a solution. I organised for the pipework to be delivered back to a subcontract fabricator in Radstock, who made the changes for me, and then delivered the new pipes back to site. I kept a complete schedule of all works, containing quotation and purchase order references, item details, and a marked up drawing. This made collating the final bill very easy and quick, while also reducing the time I needed to directly manage the subcontractor, as the schedule provided everything required. This allowed me to be more efficient on site, and help with other ongoing issues.

Process Design EngineerBridges Electrical Engineers Ltd Aug 2015 - Jul 2016RadstockI performed process and mechanical design for new pumping stations and sampling kiosks, comprising P&IDs, MEICA schedules, general arrangements and fabrication drawings. I calculated pump sizes based on process data, and made technical assessment of proposed equipments prior to procurement. I gave a presentation to 270 people at the Costain Supply Chain conference in 2016. I also acted as a mentor to Bristol university students during this period, helping to guide their studies and provide a perspective from industry. I became proficient in Inventor 3D software for design, and performed structural analysis using the tools available.
-
Production EngineerRobinson Healthcare Ltd Jun 2014 - May 2015WorksopMy role was to identify issues with production lines, and find ways to improve both quality and efficiency of production. On the readywipes line, I found that the bagging unit was misaligned, causing some packages to be rejected. After fixing the problem, I recommended the frequency of routine maintenance on the bagging unit to be increased. I analysed the breast pads lines, to find the most common causes of failure. This allowed capital expenditure to be prioritised for certain parts of the line, while routine maintenance was also more targeted. I implemented the addition of sprays to the pleats line, to increase the overall moisture content of the product, and hence decrease the mass of raw material required. I also led performance trials of the balls line, to find the cause of sliver breakages.

Process TechnicianClyde Bergemann Power Group Sep 2012 - Jun 2014Doncaster, United KingdomI was a process engineer on £3m Power Station upgrades in the Power Industry. I designed two Electroprecipitator (ESP) plants in Romania, providing P&IDs, design calculations, and equipment specifications for procurement. I carried out complete mass and energy balances, and also wrote the control philosophies and FDS. I managed a subcontract systems integrator, who wrote the software for the systems. I then tested both the software and hardware off site, before also assisting with commissioning of the new panels on site. After commissioning was complete. I delivered training presentations to both clients.
