During spawning season (summer) primarily worked on the water to plant new oyster beds in the salt marsh of South Carolina. Monitor and supervise contractual shell planting as assigned. Assisted in site selection for large scale restoration. We routinely monitored and sampled our beds and plantings to check recruitment and reef success. Recorded and organized data accurately in databases and create new ones as needed.Led deployment of signs for public and state shellfish boundary, including managing sign database, the placement and mapping through ArcGIS. Led outreach, implementation, route coordination, bin deployment, and collection of Charleston area restaurants' recycled oyster shells. Worked with crew of two others to coordinate and collect all recycled oyster shells (oyster season - winter) in South Carolina for the Oyster Shell Recycling and Planting Program. Aided in the ideas and execution for marketing Shell Recycling Program. Worked with caterers, restaurants, and shell drop-off point creation and initiation.

Worked in Panama City at the STRI lab on Isla Naos assisting with genetics work on two genera of sea urchin with two species in each group. Also worked in Bocas del Toro helping in raising the larvae. This work involves free-diving to collect the adults, spawning them to obtain gametes, performing the crosses, then caring for the larvae daily until they metamorphose. It is an art, requiring a good feeling for the organism and an understanding of all things that can go wrong when larvae are grown in culture bottles.
