Havings spent a long and enjoyable career as an advertising copywriter writing for every conceivable form of enterprise including the marketing of coal, soap, fizzy drinks, cars (both Rolls Royce and Skoda), financial services, film and TV; Government initiatives et al, I finally turned away from press, tv, and radio in favour of the longer form - novels. I have written four novels to date; the last two being comic murder mysteries set in the pre-digital advertising world of 1983. 'A Brand to Die For' was published in 2022 and introduced readers for the first time to copywriter Angus Lovejoy and art director Brian Finkle - two hapless but brilliant creative souls who stumble into a world of deceit, malpractice, and murder. The sequel 'One Man Down' has been taken up by Roundfire Books and will be published in 2025. Previous to this, my debut thriller 'The Chair Man', which was published in 2019, is set in 2005 against the backdrop of the terrorist attack on London's transport system. It took three years to complete and was a Finalist in the Wishing Shelf Book Awards 2021. During Covid, I conducted 100 author interviews in an attempt to delve into authors' backgrounds, motivations and working methods. These were eventually published in book form as '100 Ways to Write a Book.' All author proceeds go to PEN International. My first work of fiction 'Sleeping with the Blackbirds' was a modern-day urban fantasy for children and young adults, which was longlisted by the Millennium Book Awards 2018 and selected by the Indie Author Project for distribution to public libraries across the US and Canada. Future plans include a third book in the Lovejoy & Finkle Murder Mystery series, and a sequel to The Chair Man, which will be The Air Man.
