Alex Richards is an assistant professor at Syracuse University's Newhouse School, where he teaches data journalism and other reporting courses. He joined SU from the San Francisco-based consumer finance startup NerdWallet, where he was the deputy editor of their investigative reporting team. He previously worked as a data reporter and editor for the Chicago Tribune, The Chronicle of Higher Education and the Las Vegas Sun. Richards is also a former training director for Investigative Reporters & Editors, where he taught in-depth reporting and data journalism techniques in newsrooms across the country.
