He is great to work with and I would recommend him for any position." and "It is my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Alex Roa. As a person - he is friendly, sincere and insightful; as an employee - he is absolutely dependable, very intelligent and produces beautiful, useful and well-designed products. Alex brings nothing but good things to our office setting - whether it is his positive attitude and candor or his perceptive insights and focus, it's always great to have Alex around in whatever we do as he's quite dynamic and flexible. Alex is skilled with a variety of GIS toolkits/software. In our day-to-day operations we mainly use ESRI's ArcMap, of which, Alex is very well versed...he knows the software well and is often teaching others about it. He's also recently gained exposure to Open Source GIS softwares, such as Quantum GIS and gvSIG. Within the various GIS softwares, Alex has proven his comprehensive knowledge of GIS principles and application - specifically, he's helped our office complete various projects involving network-based analysis with ESRI's Network Analyst to determine response/service areas. As a Cartographer, Alex is one of the best I've ever worked with - he has an impeccable taste for quality design and knows how to make beautiful, yet useful products. Regard to detail is a very high priority for Alex, his products have many levels of careful attention. He has made many types of products for a wide variety of customers: Operational (fire), facility, vegetation management maps, etc. for CAL FIRE, San Luis Obispo County, Emergency Medical Services Authority and more. Besides his wonderful personality and high level of GIS skill - Alex also has skills and abilities to troubleshoot and solve various computer and network related issues. If a wrench is thrown into our office-operations, Alex has the know-how to identify and solve the problem. It is nice to have someone who has a variety of skills, not just strong in one distinct area. And something that may be obvious (as I'm writing this for his application to Graduate School) is Alex's passion and dedication to learning and improvement. It is truly a blessing to have Alex in our workplace, I do not believe that we would operate at the high level at which we do - without his energy, commitment and abilities."
