I was a residential care worker for traumatized children and teenagers in Melbourne, Australia for a year. My position was emergency relief for the regular full time staff. I went into homes around the city and became a big brother & care taker. My job was to keep the peace, and in times of war, disengage the situation. These kids often times had terrible behavior and between the police and staff, we had to protect these kids from each other and themselves. I helped many deal and cope with family abuse, violence, bullying, drug usage, self destruction and suicide. Most of the time the peace was kept and I would take the kids to have fun in a multitude of ways. I would usually work for 24+ hour shifts.

I was a line cook for nearly two years before requesting to become a server.
