As a student physiotherapist I completed 7 placements and collated over a 1000-hour practice. I gained knowledge, skills and experience that are essential and transferable. Communication: I had to communicate to a multidisciplinary team and patients of different backgrounds and cultures. On my mental health placement, I had to adapt my communication strategy so that patients living with mental health issues could understand easier. I spoke in simple sentences and avoided encouraging/ discouraging hallucinogenic episodes. Organisational: It was essential during my placement that my tasks were organised. Whilst on my acute placement in a hospital, I prioritised my workload to ensure that tasks and patients were seen before the end of the day and medical records were completed. Health and safety: I learned that it is essential to uphold health and safety measures to ensure the safety of myself and client. During my orthopaedic placement I worked closely with post operative patients and learnt each care plan of joint surgery. I had to work on a one-to-one basis with patients to ensure that they followed their strict rehabilitation protocol in line with health and safety protocols. Teaching: My role was to teach clients, patients and patient's carers about the benefits of exercise on the body. Whilst working in a professional setting, I taught injured athletes how to perform their program to decrease the risk of further injuries. Additionally, during my pulmonary rehabilitation and my rheumatology placement, I had to present my own classes to a group. I had to consider each patients ability and include adjustments for patients on how to manage the regimes. Time management: I had to perform my role to strict deadlines. Whilst working in frailty, certain patients would attend their appointments via hospital transport, it was my job to ensure that all the patient tasks were completed in a timely manner before the transport was booked and the patient was discharged.

Netherlands

During my time working in The Netherlands, I helped construct, demolish and maintain liquid storage tanks that were used in fire protection. Whilst doing this role I worked to the current Health and Safely policies and legislations. It was an essential responsibility in this role to work in a team and to my own initiative. I had to confidently liaise with clients and team members to ensure that projects were safely completed in a timely manner.

Whilst working in this French café, I worked to the restaurant hygiene policies to uphold health and safety regulations. I confidently communicated in both English and French with customers from all around the world and provided excellent customer service. I was given the responsibility of handling the daily finances and floats whilst preparing the venue for opening and closing. I used, maintained and cleaned the coffee machine in the venue to provide speciality beverages to the customers. I helped integrate and train new staff members into the team. I worked in a small team and organised various events to increase the morale of the team.

Although this role was short, I was given a lot of responsibility. It was my role to liaise with managers, colleagues and customers to effectively carry out the safe handling and transportation of customer goods.

My role on the research unit was cross city and between 3 different teams: multiple sclerosis, renal and red team, which included things like rheumatology. Whilst working as this role I always worked to the current legislations and policies to uphold high standards of healthcare. I also performed intravenous cannulation and venepuncture, managed blood samples in a laboratory environment and organised worldwide couriers for transportation of samples. I screened patients from around the hospital for research purposes and I maintained and updated study specific stock sheets using Microsoft excel.

As a healthcare assistant on the Endoscopy unit, I had to remain professional, supportive and confidential during a patient's procedure. I had to assist in taking upper and lower gastroenterology biopsies as well as bronchial. Administrating gas and air to patients undergoing lower gastroenterology procedures. I had to accurately document all necessary information when in the operative room and ensure all patients observations were continually monitored.
