  • The University Of Glasgow
    Doctoral Researcher In Biomedical Engineering
The University Of Glasgow Sep 2011 - Jan 2015
    Glasgow, Glasgow, Gb
My research in biomedical engineering focused on the design We have developed a method for constructing self-assembling nanopatterned scaffolds. These scaffolds utilize microscopic, environmentally responsive hydrogel hinges to facilitate folding, enabling the capture of stem cells from solution. The nanopatterned inner surfaces of these structures are designed to differentiate the stem cells into liver organoids, which can then be used in lab-on-a-chip and patient-on-a-chip applications for targeted drug development.Key topics: Stem cells, smart hydrogels, tissue scaffolds, regenerative medicine, biointerfaces, nanoimprint lithography (NIL), microfabrication, and nanotechnology.Outputs:- Created a novel process for high-throughput 2.5D nanopatterning of biocompatible materials.- Developed smart hydrogel bilayer films and a patterning process to create hydrogel micro-actuators.- Designed novel self-assembling microcontainers (bioMEMS) powered by smart hydrogel actuators.
