Alex is a lawyer and nationally recognized policy expert on federal regulatory and legislative strategy, risk management, political strategy, crisis management, and strategic communications. Throughout his career he has been a senior policy advisor and negotiator in the most significant matters before Congress and the global business community, including serving as a top leadership staffer in the Senate. Alex has been recognized for his work in The Hill’s Top Lobbyists list more than ten times in his career, including in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024. Prior to founding two influential government affairs firms, Alex served as Chief Counsel to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, M.D., where he was responsible for political and legislative strategy and oversight on a broad range of policy issues including tech/telecom, health care, entertainment industry issues, judicial nominations, campaign finance/elections, and privacy. During his years as Chief Counsel, Alex was recognized as one of the “Roll Call Fabulous Fifty” – the annual list of most powerful congressional staffers. Additionally, Alex served as the Majority Leader’s liaison to the 9/11 Commission, the NASA Columbia Accident Investigation Board (CAIB), the Senate Republican High Tech Task Force, the construction of the Capital Visitors Center, and was responsible for issues relating to continuity of government for the legislative branch. In this role, Alex served as the “Designated Survivor” during the 2004 State of the Union Address. Alex previously served as General Counsel to the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Deputy Counsel to the Republican National Committee, Counsel to the Republican Attorneys General Association, Counsel to the Platform, 2004 RNC Convention, and worked in the election law and telecommunications regulatory practices at one of the top-rated law firms in Washington, D.C. Alex appears regularly on CNN, Fox News, Fox Business Network, and other media outlets. Alex received his B.A. in History from the University of California at San Diego and his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School. Alex is also an amateur race car driver, having competed in races around the world including the 24hrs of Dubai, IMSA Weathertech Sports Car Championship, Porsche Sprint Challenge North America, and currently competes in the Pirelli GT4 America Series. He lives with his wife, former Virginia State Senator Jill Vogel, and their six children in Upperville, Virginia.
