About Alexa Gerlach
Having grown up on a remote ranch in the north-western United States, my path to recruitment has been conventionally unconventional. I’ve had stints as a pony walker, buyer for a vintage clothing store and pizza dough maker. I graduated from Barnard College in New York City with the intention of becoming a German literary translator. I worked with several organizations in Munich to expand their brand to the US, but after moving to Australia in 2015 and New Zealand in 2016, I transitioned from translation to recruitment. One of my first roles when I arrived in NZ in 2016 was with Auckland Council's customer service team. I was involved in coordinating a massive 100+ person recruit as part of the department's restructure. Turns out I loved recruitment - everything from candidate care, to market research, to stakeholder engagement. I quickly worked my way from a Consultant to Managing Consultant in agency recruitment and then went internal to lead Flight Centre Travel Group NZ's nationwide recruitment function. After Covid decimated the travel industry and my team of recruiters at Flight Centre, I took 5 months to hike the length of the North Island in New Zealand, covering almost 2,000 kilometers on foot and teaching yoga for two months outside Abel Tasman. I returned to Auckland as my most resilient and motivated self and managed a portfolio for Genesis Energy with a focus on Contact Centre, Sales and Truck Driver recruitment. After nearly 10 years abroad, I returned to the US and joined a small business for the first time in nearly a decade. My role with a thriving physical therapy practice focused mainly on sales and customer service. Now living just outside Dublin in Co. Wicklow, I look forward to establishing myself in a new market as a recruitment professional. Outside of the office, I spend my time hiking, teaching yoga on the side and fumbling my way through a beginner's pilates practice.
