Growing up I often struggled with my identity as a young, Latina girl because the community I lived in did not provide a lot of positive representation of hispanic people. I felt like I had to constantly prove myself to gain acceptance from a society that did not value the hispanic experience. The messages that were conveyed to me as a young girl coupled with my passion for social and racial justice influenced me to study Sociology for my undergraduate degree. In the future my general goal is to help people and make a positive difference for as many people possible. No one chooses the situation they are put into but there is a choice of how those situations will impact the individual's life. I hope to accomplish this through a career in social work and public policy.
