Leading a research programme in Data Science and Health Services focused on data visualisation tools for clinical decision-making and behaviour change support in chronic conditions.

Research project: ASTRO-LAB, a longitudinal cohort study that investigates the efficacy and safety of LABAs in treating children and adults with asthma in routine care in UK and France, by combining data from medical databases and patients' and clinicians' reports. It examines the dynamics of medication use and clinical outcomes, investigates treatment adherence as a potential mechanism of LABA-associated risks, and explores adherence determinants at patient and clinician level in order to identify new ways of improving adherence support. Duration: 4 ½ years. Funder: European Commission 7th Framework Programme. Research project: “Managing Persistent Non-Specific Low Back Pain in Primary Care: Patients’ and Clinicians’ Treatment Beliefs”. Starting from the recent UK clinical guidelines on early management of persistent non-specific low back pain in primary care, this project consisted of three related studies and had two aims. The first was to explore patients’ treatment beliefs using focus groups and subsequently develop and validate a questionnaire for use in research and clinical work. The second aim was to investigate (via interviews) clinicians' treatment beliefs and their approach to clinical decision making in low back pain treatment. Duration: 4 years.
