Alex Velez-Green is Senior Policy Advisor in The Heritage Foundation's Center for National Defense. He previously served as Senior Advisor to the Vice President for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation.Prior to Heritage, Velez-Green served as National Security Advisor to Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO). He also worked at Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc. and the Center for a New American Security. His work in all of these roles focused on strengthening America’s ability to deter – or if necessary, defeat – Chinese and Russian aggression.Velez-Green graduated cum laude from Harvard College. He is an avid backpacker and has traveled widely, including backpacking from Cairo to Cape Town. He is also a novice mountaineer.
