In 2021, I co-founded MOTTO alongside Joel Simkhai, taking the lead on product development, design, go-to-market strategy, marketing, operations, and engineering.MOTTO was crafted as a verified hookup and casual dating platform specifically for gay and queer men, addressing frustrations common with other dating apps. We focused on eliminating catfishing, reducing flaking, and minimizing aimless small talk to respect people’s time, energy, and mental well-being.We launched in Miami to a wave of excitement, acquisition, and positive buzz, with extensive community building tactics and fast product iteration. But, we didn't hit customer acquisition targets, which led us to redesign, re-strategize, and re-launch in New York in 2022. For two years, we grew the community to tens of thousands of members, facilitating countless dates, flings, and meaningful connections, before ultimately making the tough decision to close down.Building MOTTO with an amazing team was thrilling, hard, educational, and deeply rewarding.
