I worked alongside the Senior Manager of Investment Operations and the Fund Accountant. After one week of taking detailed notes on specific processes and asking lots of questions, the team felt confident in me to assist in their work. I was designated three reports that I was to complete daily. First, I was responsible for preparing a Custody Holdings report for all four of Caldwell’s mutual funds. This entailed tracking the quantity of each security in the mutual funds. If discrepancies were to arise, I would investigate with the team to uncover the issue. I was also responsible for performing a Cash Reconciliation report. This report involved keeping track of subscriptions and redemptions as well as available cash on hand for portfolio managers to operate. Lastly, I was in charge of the NAV Flux Analysis, where I would track the net asset value of each of Caldwell’s funds. The Chairman of the firm approached me with a task, without giving any guidance, to lead a marketing initiative. I sourced 1,000 promotional keychains and arranged a local engraving company to apply Caldwell’s logo into it. Once completed, these products were distributed across the firm for the investment advisors to give to potential clients. This was a major success, as our marketing team received overwhelmingly positive feedback. My fellow interns and I were given the opportunity to lead a one hour weekly meeting with the Chairman. Each intern individually chaired the meeting by preparing the topics of discussion and was responsible for ensuring all attendees were active participants. I decided to focus my presentation on uncertainty in the market and how important it is to balance the two major emotions in investing; fear and greed.
