As a strength and conditioning coach this involves me overseeing sessions which the athletes are undertaking in. During these sessions specific coaching and cue points are given to optimise biomechanics and technique, whilst minimising injury risk. These athlete’s range from scholar and youth athletes to nationally and internationally competing athletes, of both genders. The sports range from; swimming, athletics, netball, tennis, football, rugby and shooting.

The main responsibility of the Rehabilitation Therapist is to perform rehabilitation exercises within both gymnasiums and clinics. Physiotherapists refer patients with a range of conditions for rehabilitation until their discharge. The use of therapeutic exercise, strength and conditioning, and exercise modification are utilised for this role. Each patient receives a tailored and individualised program for gym based exercise along with a home exercise program.

The role mainly involves pre-training massages, taping and strapping, and pitch side first aid. Should an injury occur, a full assessment would take place and be communicated with this semi-professional rugby league club’s lead Sports Rehab Practitioner.

As the Head Sport Therapist, I provided varying prehabilitation, strength and conditioning, and rehabilitation practices to accommodate for the different age group requirements. Taping and strapping, sport massages, pre and post-match assessments, pitch side first aid, and biomechanical analysis were also responsibilities I had.

While working alongside the Head of Physiotherapy and Sport Medicine, I was able to improve the performance and reduce the injury risk of players striving to obtain professional contracts through strength and conditioning methods. Continual professional development took place by applying academic knowledge to a hands on experience in a professional setting.

I decided to take a personal step forward in my profession and become self-employed. The mini-business involved injury assessment, rehabilitation programs, injury prevention plans, massages, and exercise prescription for the general public.

The role of the Head Sport Therapist for the FA Women’s Premier League side involved injury diagnoses, fitness testing, prehabilitation and rehabilitation, massages, taping and strapping, and immediate first aid at both training and matches.

As the lead Sport Therapist for the Youth Development and Academy squads, I provided massages, taping and strapping, pitch side first aid, fitness assessments, as well as additional rehabilitation sessions for injured players.
