Mr Gill performs day to day operations using the company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and best practices for performance tuning, security, patching, backup and recovery, and proposing new technologies for clients. He implements backup and recovery procedures using RMAN and Data Pump utility for Oracle databases and test regularly in operations. He clones production databases as needed for testing and development using RMAN as well as creates databases and database objects. Mr. Gill was part of a team that installed and configured Oracle RAC on different nodes. He maintains 24/7 availability by executing standard processes and troubleshooting live issues within defined strict SLAs. He monitors and troubleshoots database performance using OEM for best practices, AWR, ADDM, EXPLAIN PLAN, ASH, and ADRCI. Currently working with Linux servers he uses Crontab utility to perform batch jobs as well as the new Oracle Scheduler. Security is the major focus at the financial institution as it should be with any. Mr. Gill's security strategy revolves around use of Truple A's (Authorization, Authentication, and Auditing.) He also performs other security related tasks including Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) as well as staying compliant with the Sarbanes-Oxley and Basle II regulations which can cause companies imprisonment of their senior staff and/or heavy fines if found non-compliant.Mr Gill has worked with his team to plan and implement database modeling using tools such as SQL Developer and Data Modeler. He helped setup Oracle Data Guard Architecture for all production databases in his environment. Performs installations, configurations, upgrades, and maintenance of Oracle server software as well as related projects like Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and Grid Control. He has upgraded databases and is a part of the migration team using Golden Gate to help transfer data. He also participates in weekend on-call rotations.
