I worked both independently and alongside exploration geologists in operations at Europe's largest base metal mine. I was responsible for my own work flow, project direction, resources and time management to deliver and communicate results in a timely manner to management for integration into wider projects.Tasks included• Devising a sampling strategy for basement rock within the study area• Extended periods of independent core logging• Core sampling• Construction of a detailed basement rock facies system. This was subsequently adopted for all basement rock cored in the area by the company• Sample preparation, thin section petrography, Scanning electron microscopy.• XRD, XRD data generation and interpretation.• Geochemical modellingThis work formed the basis of my fully industry funded masters thesis: Lithogeochemical characterisation of basinal fluid flow in the evolution of the Navan orebody, Ireland. With related work currently in preparation for publication.
