Graduate engineer working towards the decarbonisation of buildings and projects in and around the Cambridge area.

Along with my co-officer with whom I shared this role we were in charge of booking and coordinating the non-musical entertainment for the 2022 Emmanuel College may Ball, a 10-hour overnight event with around 1500 guests. With a budget of around £22,000 we sourced and coordinated a range of installments such as swingboats, large inflatables, mini-golf, a casino, and a range of other activities; organised performances from a range of groups including magicians, cabaret, and acrobatics; and obtained other needed services for the event such as photography. This role also involved writing and negotiating contracts, collecting and assessing risk assessments, and managing staffing for the event, both before and on the night itself.I also was very involved in the general organisation of the ball as a member of the committee and was involved in the planning and running of other areas of the event.

The role had two aspects. Firstly it involved both working on outreach to schools and students which have more limited access to university and specifically Oxbridge. This would be through running of online events and shadowing schemes (particularly necessary due to the pandemic) and the organisation of visits to schools with student volunteers to give talks to a range of years. The second part was to represent the access community in college. This was firstly in a pastoral sense, as someone that could be contacted and help students with their specific issues, provide advice and point them in the direction of support that might help. It also entailed liaising with college to raise access issues relevant to the student body such as rent prices, specific financial needs or other more specific issues. The role also involved sitting on the college student union and taking part in general committee decisions and debates.

The role involved negotiating and organising a ticketing provider, providing fencing for the ball and hiring and coordinating with a security personnel company. It also involved working in a committee to plan a ball and imputing into general planning on an artistic and logistical level. The event did not take place in the end, despite a range of contingency plans, due to the effects of Covid-19.
