Historian of global environmental history, the history of capitalism and radical thought in Modern Europe, and global Communism at Worcester Polytechnical Institute. I have a broad range of interests, including urban history, science and technology, intellectual history, film, and music. My research concerns a massive flood protection barrier in Leningrad/ St. Petersburg that the Communist Party commissioned in the late Soviet period and completed in 2011. I also help run a brick-and-mortar community lending library called Red Ink Community Library in Providence, RI. I strongly believe in public engagement and education through building meaningful relationships, and I strive to make my work accessible to a broad audience that includes specialists and non-specialists. I have written two books. The first is an oral history of punk rock music in Russia from 1979 to 2015, and the second is about horror films in the final years of the USSR. I do all of this while helping to raise a daughter.
