The task of my working group was to analyze and digitalize satellite imagery (SPOT-6, Landsat) by using a specifically designed land cover classification system. The project areas were situated mainly in Romania (Carpathian Mountains, Danube Delta), Italy (Gargano National Park, Cilento National Park) and Croatia (Velebit National Park). Show less

The organisation maintains project clusters in Dharamshala (HP), Hoshiapur (PJ) and Jaisalmer (RJ). As Assistant Project Manager for Forestation and Wildlife Conservation, I was part of a team of three in the ConservEN branch. Our goal was to plan the reforestation of an bare and exposed slope above a community of households in the Himalaya near Dharamshala. The plantation had to be done under the aspects of securing the soil, providing resources (fire wood and animal fodder) and increasing the biodiversity of the area.My tasks were to gather information about appropriate tree species, create a plan and map for the plantation and coordinate communial activities like collecting used barb wire, preparing fencing material and setting up a fence around the project area.During the three-month internship my perspective was enriched by- working closely with nationalities from all continents- learning how to develop and execute projects on my own- experiencing a culture very different in lifestyle, work attitudes, habits and ethics- encouraging people of different cultures and backgrounds to participate and take initiative- getting to know the Himalayan flora and earth system- learning to work with very limited resources (like limited and unreliable electricity and internet, second hand ressources, simple tools, etc.)and most of all, understanding that an acitvity or project gone differently as expected is not necessarily a failure. The objective is to create an extensive network of natural areas by linking the secluded forests and protected zones through natural corridors like hedges and tree lines in order to enrich biodiversity.During the six weeks of my internship, I had the task to research ways to acquire volunteers for different jobs in those projects. Furthermore, I had an insight into evaluating the biodiversity of an area, maintaining renaturalized areas and participating in a school childrens action day where we planted trees as part of the Interreg-project.Le Centre Trinational pour l'Environment est une organisation allemand dans le "district des trois frontières", la Suisse et la France.
