About Alexander Lekhtman
My name is Alexander and I am a musician and writer.I graduated from New York University in May 2017 from the Steinhardt Music Business program. During my time at NYU, I studied music and the music industry, entertainment, economics, law, and accounting. I interned with four different entertainment companies including a recording studio and an artist management group. In 2015 I joined the campus activist movement with Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) and became President of our chapter my senior year. We helped launch two Lobby Days at the state legislature in Albany, bringing together students from around the state to talk with lawmakers about Banning the Box and marijuana legalization. My activism led me to journalism when I joined Psymposia.com in June 2016 as a writer and editor. Since then I’ve written for several other outlets including Filter, High Times and Leafly on drug policy, psychedelics, policing, incarceration, and homelessness. I have reported from drug policy summits in New York, Atlanta, St. Louis, Chicago, and Mexico. And of course, the pulse beneath everything is music. I currently write, sing, and play guitar with New York-based music ensemble Death Is A Business. We released our debut album October 31, 2019 and are working on the follow-up.
