About Alexander Münch

I'm Alex, a passionate Energy Engineering enthusiast currently pursuing a Master's degree in Energy Engineering with a specialization in Thermal Energy and Process Engineering at Aalborg University. I'm set to graduate in August 2025. Why Energy Engineering? I've always been fascinated by conversion processes like fuel cells, electrolysers, and power-to-x technologies. The goal of my professional career is to develop these technologies that lead to a sustainable future. My studies will equip me with skills in CFD simulation and process optimization, which are essential for solving real-world engineering challenges. Professional Experience During my academic journey, I've had the opportunity to work on exciting projects. In my bachelor's thesis, I designed a test stand for Siqens GmbH to enhance the quality management of a fuel cell system component. Additionally, I served as a research assistant at the Fraunhofer Institute of Chemical Technology, contributing to the development of a fuel cell system for aviation applications. My responsibilities included technical design and component selection, as well as setting up a prototype in the laboratory. Skills and Growth My experiences have sharpened my skills in teamwork, analytical thinking, problem-solving, time management, and effective communication. Collaborating with colleagues and interacting with companies have further refined my communication and self-management skills in a professional environment. My DreamMy dream is to make a meaningful impact in the development of environmentally friendly technology. I'm committed to mitigating the consequences of climate change through industrial innovation. Research Assistant

Pfinztal, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany

Project H2GAThe H2GA project focussed on developing a fuel cell system for use in a small aircraft. My main activities included the technical design and procurement of suitable components for the system. To this end, I gained an overview of the market for fuel cell components and liaised closely with various companies. Working in a small team, communication with colleagues was essential.AchievementsDuring my limited time, I found solutions for all system-relevant components, which allowed me to start building the first prototype shortly after I left (due to my studies). Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology The Fraunhofer ICT is part of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, the largest research organization in Europe. The institute comprises four core areas: chemical processes, plastics technology, explosives technology and energy and drives. The working group (applied electrochemistry) in which I was able to work deals with the development of electrolyzers, fuel cells and batteries as well as associated processes.

Development and construction of a component test stand for an HT-PEM fuel cell systemMy task was to design and construct a test stand for a methanol-fuelled burner that preheats a fuel cell system. The aim was to check the burner's functionality before installation in the fuel cell system and thus avoid system failures. Uniform quality criteria were determined by recording and analyzing test data (using Python scripts) and a standardized test procedure was implemented. AchievementsThe test stand was successfully set up and put into operation together with the responsible production employee. In addition, quality criteria for the burner were established for the first time and data on the test runs were stored to be able to trace them and make statements about the quality of the burners.Siqens GmbHThe methanol-powered HT-PEM fuel cell system Ecoport from Siqens GmbH offers an environmentally friendly and quiet alternative to conventional diesel generators. The compact system is used in off-grid applications.
