No matter what activities I engage in, I am driven by an insatiable pursuit of knowledge. As a fourth-year undergraduate student majoring in biomedical science, I am currently undertaking an honours research project investigating tumor cell environments while pioneering a novel approach to investigate their characteristics. I am captivated by the prospect of developing a greater understanding of cancer biology, just as much as my passion for aviation.I am currently employed as a glider pilot instructor where I am able to pass on my love for aviation to youth selected for the glider pilot training course. My natural inclination to teach extends to my employment as a water safety instructor where I teach individuals aged anywhere between 4 months and 50+ years to develop critical swimming and lifesaving skills. I am sought out as a manager, evidenced by my role as aquatics shift leader where my skills in teamwork, interpersonal communication, and leadership increase patron safety and satisfaction within the City of Airdrie. My ability to lead and effectively communicate transfers into roles such as my recent tenure as elected chair of the Airdrie Board of Youth Affairs, an organization whose main purpose is to serve as a bridge between City Council and act as a voice for Airdrie youth. Having fulfilled great reform and increased awareness for this organization, I continue on in an advisory role in order to nurture a new generation of youth leaders. In addition to pursuing my dream of aviation, I have a passion for medical first response and complement my lifeguarding skills by volunteering as a first responder with the University of Calgary’s Student Medical Response team.My future plans are driven by passion and are to be realized by a determined attitude and work ethic.Don’t hesitate to reach out at alexander.ogunbiyi@ucalgary.ca.
