Artistic DirectorRiptide Nov 2014 - PresentLeeds, United KingdomRiptide is an immersive and site-sympathetic theatre company based in Leeds, who place the audience at the heart of the unfolding narratives.Riptide make work in non-theatre spaces often taking over buildings, derelict and abandoned sites to build worlds and create extraordinary experiences.Riptide's work straddles three key areas of work.- Intimate/ digital workRiptide makes intimate, often one-on-one performance which take audiences journeys which are focused on the self, on being present and mindful of our position in the world. Riptide are experimenting with binaural (360 degree) sound for these experiences. Examples of this: Sonder, You Are Here.- Epic/ Immersive workRiptide also take over large spaces and invite in hundreds of audience at the same time. This type of work often hosts multiple, simultaneous narratives so the audience is forced to choose which part of the experience they want to see. Examples of this: SWARM, Delirium.- Pervasive/ durational workRiptide have coined the term pervasive performance, which attempts to define the durational performance Riptide creates which runs alongside the audience's real life. Audience members are given the duration of the piece (30 days for example) and told within that timeframe anyone they meet could be part of the performance. They receive letters in the post, they meet strangers who know their name, they become the main character in their very own Truman Show.Examples of this: The Lucky Ones -
