Embedded Software Engineer
CurrentAs an Embedded Software Engineer, I work with a team of 7 engineers to develop firmware and integration/unit tests for Rockwell Automation Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Development work for firmware and unit tests is done using C++11. Integration and functional testing is done using Python 2/3. Our team's development work is done within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment.Responsibilities include:• Independent and collaborative work on firmware or testing user stories, as well as investigative spikes.• Applying knowledge of object-oriented analysis, design, and programming techniques to design and plan the implementation of firmware features.• Working independently or collaboratively with team members to perform Program Increment (PI) planning. Specifically objective development, refinement, and story creation.• Presenting and demonstrating new functionality developed by the team to the Agile Release Train (ART) with over 200 engineers present.• Triaging and investigating automated regression test failures.• Use of Studio 5000 Logix Designer for customer projects that are interpreted by firmware.• Use of Continuous Integration and testing software such as Gitlab, Jenkins, and QTest.• Use of Confluence and markdown to document firmware/test designs at high-level or detail-level.Notable on-the-job side projects include:• Led efforts to evaluate and integrate proprietary database software into legacy firmware code.• Led efforts to deploy Azure SQL database for Embedded Software department IDE usage data tracking and development environment troubleshooting.• Continue to lead efforts to document, evaluate, and improve team workflows.
