Tax, Trade, Financial Services, Retirement, Small Business, Housing, Commerce, Retirement, Elections, and Childcare advisor to U.S. Senator Angus S. King, Jr.

As an Associate in Verrill Dana's Private Clients and Fiduciary Services Group, I focused my practice on all aspects of tax, estate, and gift planning, trust administration, and probate.

I served as Senator King's primary adviser on transportation and infrastructure issues. In that role, I provided Senator King with vote recommendations, prepared him for speeches on the Senate floor, collaborated with the Senator's Press Team to write press releases on transportation topics, drafted the Senator's letters to senior Administration officials and his colleagues regarding transportation issues, and formulated his responses to constituent questions about transportation and infrastructure issues. I met frequently with constituents, industry representatives, and fellow staffers. In conjunction with the Senator's Deputy Chief-of-Staff, I organized three productive meetings of the Former Governors' Caucus (comprised of all former governors who currently serve as United States Senators) that focused on building consensus within the Caucus around legislation that would affect a permanent rehabilitation of the Highway Trust Fund. I developed expertise in the fields of surface and air transportation policy, transportation funding, and transportation finance. From March through July 2014, I transitioned from my defense work, retained my transportation Legislative Aide portfolio, and became Senator King's Executive Assistant and Deputy Scheduler. These new roles focused on keeping Senator King informed and on schedule. Both involved close, daily contact with the Senator, required clear communication with him and with my colleagues, and demanded strong organizational skills.

As a Legislative Correspondent for Senator King, I researched and presented briefs to the Senator on defense, intelligence, veterans, and foreign affairs issues, represented the Senator's views to government agencies, and conducted constituent outreach, which included letter-writing and response duties. In addition I was the Senator's staffer with primary responsibility for the Transportation and Infrastructure portfolio.

As a member of former Governor Angus King's campaign team, I worked closely with the campaign's Finance Team. I also completed research, staffed field events, drafted communications materials, and conducted voter outreach.

As an employee of Deltek's Federal Information Solutions division, I created and updated opportunity reports on Army contracts, with particular focus on the Information Technology and AEC sectors. My research required scanning several Government websites, utilizing complex software, and speaking directly with Government Contracting Officers to determine procurement milestones.

I led Teach for America's recruitment efforts on the Bowdoin College campus during my senior year at the College. In this capacity, I liaised with students, Career Planning staff, and Teach for America personnel to ensure that Bowdoin's top students heard about, applied to, and eventually gained employment with Teach for America.

In July, I returned to Congressman John B. Larson's District Office, where I pursued immigration cases, tracked the Congressman's press coverage, and completed archival work.

As an intern for Congressman Larson, I provided assistance to the Congressman´s staff in projects that ranged from grant research to immigration cases. Additionally, I staffed the Congressman´s public events during my tenure with his office.

My job as a counselor at Camp Becket required that I entertain, teach, and care for eight boys. Working with a different co-counselor each session, I progressed from an Assistant Counselor position in the summer of 2007 to a full Counselor position in 2008. My job involved work with boys from the age of seven to 15 and included frequent contact and coordination with superiors.

During my internship with Senator Dodd, I sorted his written and electronic correspondence, summarized legislation for staff members, and staffed the Senator´s events. I worked closely with the Senator´s staff, including his Legislative Director, Deputy Chiefs-of-Staff, and Legislative Assistants and Correspondents.
