Alexander Sarac is a project, energy and infrastructure partner with international law firm Addleshaw Goddard. Alexander is based in Riyadh. After 8 years in Dubai, Alexander moved to Riyadh in September 2023 as one of the founding partners of the Riyadh office of Addleshaw Goddard. To date Alexander worked on transactions in over 45 countries. Alexander advises governments, funds, sponsors and developers, financial institutions, and regional and international development banks on energy and infrastructure transactions in Africa and the Middle East. In addition to his focus on energy, infrastructure and finance he regularly assists his international client base in relation to investments and corporate transactions (including M&A) in Africa.Alexander is a German-educated and qualified lawyer (Rechtsanwalt), admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales, with his Masters in Law in International and European Business Law (summa cum laude) and lived for several years in East Africa. Alexander is a member of the Advisory Board of the MENA Hydrogen Alliance and the Advisory Board of Dii Desert Energy. He served on the inaugural Advisory Council of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) from October 2016 until October 2020.

Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania)

As Legal Director for East Africa, Alexander worked on some of the largest energy and infrastructure transactions in the region while he was based in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. Clients included governments in the region, the African Development Bank, international project sponsors as well as pan-African and international businesses. Alexander's experience in East Africa included working on transaction in more than 15 African countries predominantly in Eastern and Southern Africa but also in Nigeria, Angola, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Ghana. When providing legal advice Alexander managed both the international DLA Piper team members as well as local counsel in the relevant jurisdictions. During his time in East Africa he built strong relationships with local counsel and was involved in defining the DLA Piper Africa strategy as well as in training and capacity building activities for local counsel.

Alexander joined DLA Piper as Legal Director in the international Finance and Projects team and a member of the London Energy and Infrastructure Finance in 2011. At DLA Piper, Alexander continued to focus on cross-border energy, infrastructure, trade and finance transactions in developing countries and emerging market economies. From April 2013 Alexander was located in Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania) where he worked on some of the largest energy and infrastructure transactions in the East African region as lead counsel and helped building the DLA Piper Africa network in the region by working closely with local counsel, setting up training programmes and systems, and by developing capacity building activities for affiliated local law firms.

Alexander Sarac managed the legal team of EcoSecurities (a fully owned subsidiary of J.P. Morgan Chase Bank) with lawyers and staff in offices in China, Brazil, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom. Alexander was responsible for corporate legal matters related to the business in over 40 countries and advised EcoSecurities on all commercial transactions (including industrial and renewable energy sector investments) as well as commercial and regulatory matters related to renewables and energy regulations, the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS), the Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) as well as other market based and vertical climate change regulatory national and international schemes.
