Work to reduce the risk of fire, contain fire outbreaks and manage environmental effects by: - Participating in fire suppression activities such as rake hoeing, hand clearing vegetation, using pumps, blacking out stumps, using water to extinguish fire and hotspots- Working with communities to help maintain awareness of firefighting activities- Minimising the spread of fire by back burning and clearing of vegetation- Participating in vehicle, plant and equipment maintenance for fire preparedness and suppression activities- Operating slip-ons, G Wagons, Unimogs and fire tankers in accordance with role, training, and accreditation- Using field radios and other communication equipment to communicate on the fire line- Using maps to navigate to remote areasAlso undertake: - Various fire training activities- Fire protection works such as clearing of tracks, culverts, and water points, and planned burning operations- Maintenance of facilities and equipment such as chainsaws, hand tools, brush-cutters, pole-saws, and pumps- Public road management, maintenance of public facilities and general field work in forests and parks- License checks on Victorian borders to assist VicPol with border closures due to COVID-19
