We all remember the 2008 financial crisis. My family, like many others, was affected greatly. It drove my mother’s business slowly into bankruptcy, my father was laid off, debt piled, and we fought like hell to get through it without losing the house. I’ll never forget going to the grocery store with my mom, and adding up the balance as we shopped, so she would not be embarrassed having to put items back at the register to stay on budget. Through nothing but hard work, frugality, and a few decent decisions my family came out okay. I learned a lot in those years about financial wellness, and about just how stressful finances are for the average American household. It was this experience that inspired me to ask questions. What could my family have done differently to be better prepared for that crisis? What opportunities did we miss to spring forward because we were too busy trying to survive? These questions ultimately led me to my passion and career mission: Helping educate families to become better financial decision makers so that they can live happier, healthier, more stress-free lives; and hopefully have a more positive impact on the world around them. Money will never buy happiness, but it can provide freedom and security that allows us to prioritize the pursuit of happiness.Ten years ago, I started on this path, pursuing, and obtaining a financial planning degree from Lindenwood university. I interned and worked for a half dozen planning companies, learning which sort of environment would best allow me to serve my clients. I decided an Independent RIA was the best way to truly act as fiduciary and found my home at Detalus in 2020. To better serve my clients more complex planning needs, I obtained my CFP in 2021. Today I work with many different clients, but with an emphasis on variable income planning.
