An appropriate understanding of the organisations financial principles was required as a means of selecting the most suitable suppliers. Selecting the right suppliers was also essential in managing and mitigating risk, with contracts frequently reviewed to assess this. A key role undertaken was managing relationships with suppliers. Frequent contact and transparency was vital in maintaining positive relationships. The type of contact varied from a phone call to organised meetings, depending on the nature of the supplier. This role supported the reduction of supply chain risk and increased the possibility of improved deals when re-tendering goods and services. To better understand the internal needs of the organisation, a mailbox was monitored, improving the communication between commercial services and the rest of the Metropolitan Police Service. Communication and collaboration, both internally and externally were crucial to successfully fulfilling the requirements of the role. Reports were constructed on a regular basis to provide a detailed review and analysis of current data. The reports varied from spend reports to investigative reports on potential suppliers. Many of these reports would support the decision-making process when selecting a new supplier. Alternatively, some reports were used for budgeting purposes.
