The SOJTF-A, CJ6 Plans section is responsible for the development of short and long range communication planning which directly and in-directly supports the NSOCC-A/SOJTF-A lines of effort (LOE) for the Resolute Support campaign plan. Signal efforts are influenced by individual command requirements, staff requirements, themes and messages in support of missions and campaign objectives. The information technology (IT) environment is directly supported and sustained by signal activities framed within the SOJTF-A CJ6 narrative that drives all signal efforts.

The group is responsible for operations in the Pacific. Currently, the First Battalion is stationed at Okinawa while the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Battalions are stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. The 4th Battalion was stood up in the summer of 2009.

Roles while assigned to the 160th SOAR (A): I worked as a tactical telecommunications non-comissioned officer for the 160th Special Operations Aviation unit "Airborne". Responsible for a 5 man team that facilitated forward-deployed services including satellite and line of site (UHF, VHF, FM, and HF) radio transmission system support. Systems included; MST-20's, PRC-117's, PSC-5's, in-line encryption devices. Additional requirements included; tactical Forward Area Resupply Platforms (FARP's) setup and Tactical Action Center communication manager.Unit Information:The United States Army 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), also known as Night Stalkers, is a special operations force of the United States Army that provides helicopter aviation support for general purpose forces and special operations forces. Its missions have included attack, assault, and reconnaissance, and are usually conducted at night, at high speeds, low altitudes, and on short notice. The 160th SOAR is headquartered at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

2nd Battalion, 187th Infantry deployed to Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Desert Focus, providing force protection for U.S. personnel in support of US air assets in Saudi Arabia relocated from Dhahran and from Riyadh to the remote Prince Sultan Air Base, Camp Eagle Town II. The move's purpose was force protection, and came in the wake of the 25 June 1996 terrorist bombing at Khobar Towers which killed 19 airmen and wounded many more. U.S. and Saudi Arabian officials agreed to split the $200 million cost of relocating more than 4,000 US troops. Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Army Superior Unit Award.[6]
