Race, ethnicity, disability status, mental health, chronic disease and illness, gender, sex and sexuality issues, religious identity, refugee status and age all coalesce to create unique and often unfavourable outcomes for those who are vulnerable and often have multiple vulnerable identities within formalized institutions. This Special Interest Group invites members and people interested in the issues to share their research, advance scholarship, and methods, and support early-career and underrepresented scholars interested in studying the effects multiple identities have in law enforcement and public health outcomes.

This special collection of the Harm Reduction Journal focuses on the significance of intersectionality in advancing understandings of how to reduce gender-based violence and other harms in social issues such as alcohol use, gambling, tobacco, sex work, the internet, human enhancement drugs, psychoactive and addictive substances, incarceration, road trauma, youth justice issues, domestic and intimate partner violence, filicide, infanticide, parental exploitation, victims and perpetrators, and law enforcement.Contributors are encouraged to explore diverse ways in which they have addressed these social issues, upholding human rights. This collection encourages contributors to think of intersectionality with specific emphasis on marginalised and vulnerable communities, such as people living with disability, gender and sexuality diversity, religious minorities, the young and the elderly and incarcerated individuals. Addressing intersectionality in the context of institutional responses, we encourage scholars, practitioners and academics from diverse disciplines to identify alternative ways of reducing harm through allied health professions such as occupational therapy, recreational therapy, and others, and people from criminal justice/criminology/law enforcement, social work, psychology/counselling, doctors, and nurses. We encourage submissions that speak to unconventional ways of addressing the issues either through co-designed research, methodological approaches, research findings etc.

Within this position, I tutor first-year and second-year students from the fields of Policing, Education, Social and Health Sciences in the 1st year Criminology and Health Sciences. The Criminology units are first-year units both focusing on introductory theories, criminal justice procedures within Australia and, abroad. These units are theoretical based focusing on key criminological theories and their historical and contemporary development, where students are taught to critically engage with the material and challenge this within their assessment tasks. Furthermore, I teach Cultural Competency to future Allied Health Professionals in the School of Science & Health. Within this unit, I help students unpack the importance of Human Rights and how marginalised populations may experiences barriers when engaging with health professionals - particularly CALD, ATSI, LGBTIQ-identifying and, the ageing population within Australia. Currently, my tutor ranking is 4.33% out of 5 across Western Sydney University, and my student feedback has not been less than 90% positive.

Within this role I tutored indigenous students within the Social Sciences, I provide my students with the ability to learn time management skills, summaries journal articles and articulate their arguments for each assessment. My duties included:• Creating time management spreadsheets• Allocating weekly homework tasks• Help to gather resources• Help form logical arguments• Review of work• Provide referencing experience in Harvard and APA styles.

I was employed within this job as an client services officer, within this role I was in charge of maintaining system databases, contract management and client relations. I was complemented on my ability to communicate effectively and concisely with my fellow team members, clients, and customer enquiries. Part of my duties within this role was to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction as well as a high attention to detail. Within this role time management was a high priority, as there were numerous tasks that would be required to be completed efficiently and correctly in a certain time frame. I was employed within this job in a seniority position where I specialised in Corporate (Master Trust), Retail and Group Reinsurance Products for both Australian and New Zealand Businesses for a number of large insurance companies which includes both direct clients (public) and company representatives. My daily duties entailed;• Processing and settlement of disability income insurance claims within agreed Company service standards.• Verifying new claims to meet the various treaty terms and conditions prior to acceptance of the claim.• Identifying and arranging retrocession recoveries for disability income claims.• Assisting other team members to ensure clients’ work is processed within service standards.• Liaising with Claim Assessors to obtain claim requirements for new and on-going claims.• Assisting my manager with training my fellow team members and implementing new processes to streamline efficiency.• Liaising with client to update them on the current status of their clients claims, enquires with products and treaty agreements.• Internally communicating with our Marketing, Underwriting and Group Life Premium teams on the status of claims and if there are updates to any contracts or products.

In this role, I progressed from a casual staff member to full time and was ultimately responsible for running the Trade Desk at one of the busiest Bunnings branches in Western Australia.
