Automation Control Engineer
- Wrote Allen Bradley PLC Programs for large scale wet-bench processing tools- Developed tools to streamline and improve software development - Lead efforts to commission and test tools in a clean room environment - Developed standards to streamline engineering efforts
Senior Manufacturing Engineer
- Developed automated material delivery system for assembly operations, decreased variance by 86% and created a standardized system that allowed other issues to become apparent- Led two teams of technicians and engineers to develop new and tested ideas through rapid prototyping - Returned a 16% IRR vs a capital budget of $250,000- Developed a uniform system for assembly of mini slab scissors allowing the integration of a new product with minimal associated downtime
Manufacturing Engineer Ii
-Project manager for next generation assembly stations, reduction in cycle time variation by 75% and introduction of Lean principles to the assembly process. Lead a team of 4 production welders to design and build new assembly stations. -Managed an annual budget of $100,000 to implement and sustain new manufacturing processes for the assembly of the Z45 family of products and for the assembly of Mini Slab Scissors-Designed the new standard of material transport automation for the company. Developed automated material transfer stations that eliminated any operator cycle time from the warehouse to point of use. Specified and implemented the PLC, digital IO, actuators, HMI interface, powered rollers, power distribution, wireless IO architecture, and safety equipment associated with these stations. -Developed the Allen-Bradley based controls system design for all value streams in the Redmond campus. The requirement of each system was to both allow production engineers to implement logic driven manufacturing tools and poke-yokes, and provide an isolated environment to allow entry level engineers the opportunity to experiment and learn from the system. -Specified and built a single Allen-Bradley Based control system to control the operation of multiple SEEGRID AGVs and multiple automated transfer stations throughout the Redmond campus-Identified deficiencies in safety and regulatory conformance in previously implemented systems, and developed an internal standard to ensure that industry standards such as NFPA and UL are practiced.
Manufacturing Engineer I
-Supported manufacturing operations for the Z45 value stream from welding to assembly-Implemented and supported a weld robot for the production of new mast sections -Was responsible for the implementation and integration of 6 DC torque tools, and designed control systems to prevent the assembly process from continuing until the tool was successfully used. -Lead the implementation of over 20 new weldments to the value stream, managed multiple groups to resolve quality and safety issues, and reduced total cycle time after implementation by 15%
Team Member
The University of Idaho competes annually in a design competition to design and create a hybrid Formula race car for a scholastic competition. The competition allows for a multi-cylinder four stroke engine to power the vehicle. The design goals of the project are to create a fuel-efficient car marketed towards the amateur racing enthusiast. Contributions: -Organized team meetings and documentation-Deconstructed and analyzed a single cylinder engine-Modeled entire engine in SolidWorks to create a rotating assembly-Developed new design utilizing separate cylinders on a common crankshaft-Assisted in design of a new hybrid coupling mechanism
Lab Instructor
-Intro to Mechanical Engineering-Taught young engineering students the fundamentals of mechanical engineering-Helped design projects and examples-Met with students after class to tutor them-Taught in the classroom when needed
Engineering Assistant
FEV North America is an automotive design and research firm in Auburn Hills, MI. The company works with major automotive manufacturers to investigate design, perform competitive analysis, and improve current technology. In my role as an intern, I worked under multiple professional engineers in the engine development group to investigate engine design and features. Initially, I was tasked with reverse engineering a complex European eight-cylinder engine to understand design choices and technology used. The engine was delivered to me in full, and over the course of four weeks, I disassembled and cataloged each part. Our client was interested in the efficiency of the engine due to certain valvetrain technologies, as well as the lubrication system that was implemented to handle the high performance of the engine. The result I created was a two hundred slide presentation with technical explanations of key design points for all the major components of the engine.Following the completion of this project, I worked on a long-term durability test of a different eight-cylinder engine to explore the heat distribution characteristics. My role in this project was to organize and analyze the results of the dynamometer testing. Important failures or changes in engine behavior were outlined in my report and the data leading up to and following these events was examined and analyzed. Finally, during the extra time I had on the durability project, I did competitive analysis on cylinder heads using a flow bench. The cylinder heads were tested for flow efficiency and swirl. These designs and results were outlined and added to the main report on each engine.
