About Alexander Carney
I am a passionate Engineering Sciences graduate from Dartmouth College with a strong academic foundation in Physics and Mathematics from Skidmore College. My journey in software engineering started at MobileQuest, LLC, where I taught coding to elementary school children. The thrill of seeing code come to life sparked my own interest, propelling me into the world of software development. My joy in this field comes from the 'big picture'—designing and architecting large-scale applications that intertwine numerous components into one cohesive, functioning whole. I've had the privilege to build such projects at PROCAS and the DALI Lab, honing my skills and deepening my understanding of software design and structure. One of the most fulfilling experiences in my career thus far was contributing to the engineering of the Smart Microscope at DALI Lab. This innovative tool has the potential to revolutionize clinical diagnoses, and transitioning into a technical leadership role on this project allowed me to merge my technical and leadership expertise with a profound real-world impact.Beyond coding and software development, I find immense satisfaction in teaching. I've been a peer tutor and teaching assistant throughout college, taking great pleasure in helping my peers unravel complex problems in engineering, mathematics, and physics. This year I even had the opportunity to plan and deliver my own lectures, homework, and quiz content, which has been incredibly exciting, and I hope to continue this during my PhD program at Dartmouth. In both my professional and personal life, I strive to create, innovate, and make a difference. As I move forward in my career, I aim to bring my passion for software and education into roles where I can continue to learn, teach, and inspire.
