I'm General Manager for Amazon Macie, a security service that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to help customers automatically discover, classify, and protect their sensitive data in AWS. We're hiring in Seattle, Vancouver, and sunny San Diego! Special interests include recurrent neural networks (Theano, Tensorflow, MxNet), topic modeling (LDA, LSA, Gensim, Mallet), natural language processing, and online learning.

My job as Sr. Director of Threat Research at Websense Labs was to lead an incredibly talented team of security and machine-learning researchers to discover, track and protect against the latest constantly evolving threats in the cyber domain. During my time at BTS I held positions of VP Engineering, CTO and CEO, leading a team of highly skilled technical professionals to deliver innovative and novel communications technologies to modernize military, public safety and DHS communications. • Architected and led development of the Praefectus™ cellular management software, a first of its kind distributed cellular management application designed to provide security, interoperability and mobility to rapidly deployable cellular networks and shorten the training period for operators to learn to deploy 3G and 4G cellular networks from months to just two days. Praefectus™ was sold to the Army in July of 2010 and is currently being used in Afghanistan to manage the US Army’s first deployed 3G cellular network. • Architected the Elemental™ core network, which was built from the ground up by BTS to enable resilient and highly scalable cellular network deployments of 3G and 4G LTE technology through a revolutionary decentralized architecture with advanced features such as base station routing, intrusion prevention and core-to-core handover. Elemental™ core v.1 was released in July 2012 and has been sold to the US Army G6, G2 and licensed by multiple vendors for commercial applications.• Responsible for developing IP portfolio at BTS to include patents pending in group-based Self Organizing Network technology, security enhancements to 3G and 4G cellular authentication and a novel method for cellular forensic collection. • Represented BTS as part of MITRE’s Secure LTE working group, serving as lead of the LTE EPC (Evolved Packet Core) and Secure SIM subgroups.

Battlefield Telecommunications Systems (BTS) is a Maryland-based company that provides advanced, mobile telecommunications technology, software development and integration for the U.S. government and the private sector. Since the company’s formation in 2008, BTS has been at the forefront of engineering advanced artificial and collective intelligence algorithms to automate the complexities of deploying and managing telecommunications networks in both the military and commercial sectors. BTS is the inventor and developer of Praefectus cellular and mission management software, which is now owned by the U.S. government and used to manage mobile cellular networks. Considered an Intelligence community subject matter expert in key technologies: exploitation and processing of computer networks, high data rate communications, wireless technologies and the design of tactical collection and targeting systems.

Developed and employed “Red Team / Blue Team” techniques against Department of Defense information systems to determine vulnerabilities to foreign attack. Worked as part of a highly skilled team to develop best practices, countermeasures and mitigations to improve government, military and commercial Information Assurance.
