The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy Senator Stephen Conroy today announced the appointment of Darren Alexander to the Board of NBN Tasmania Limited.“I warmly welcome the appointment of Darren Alexander to the NBN Tasmania Board,” Senator Conroy said.“Mr Alexander has been actively involved in the Tasmanian ICT industry for the past 10 years.“He represents the ICT and small business industries on a number of boards including as Chairman of Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Small Business committee. He is also the President of TAS ICT.“Mr Alexander is a passionate promoter of Tasmanian ICT and is committed to ensuring Tasmania reaps the benefits of the National Broadband Network. He will bring valuable experience to the Board and I look forward to his contribution.” CEO of NBN Co Mike Quigley also welcomed Mr Alexander’s appointment. “Mr Alexander’s knowledge, skills and experience in promoting the benefits of innovative ICT will be a valuable asset to the NBN Tasmania Board.”The appointment was made by NBN Co Limited in consultation with the shareholder ministers Senator Conroy; and Minister for Finance and Deregulation, Senator Penny Wong.NBN Tasmania has been established as a wholly–owned subsidiary of NBN Co Limited, the company responsible for rolling out and operating the National Broadband Network nationally.

The Flexible Learning Advisory Group (FLAG) provides strategic direction and support to the Framework. It is made up of a strategically-focused group of senior vocational education and training (VET) personnel advising: •The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) •The National Senior Officials Committee (NSOC) •The Australian Information and Communications Technology in Education Committee (AICTEC). on national issues related to the directions and priorities for flexible learning in VET, with particular reference to e-learning

Newly instated Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology, David O’Byrne, is relying on the Digital Futures Advisory Council to provide direction on the future of ICT in the state’s policy and economy.The advisory council was established by former Premier, David Bartlett, in December last year as a means of providing industry advice on key ICT areas. It is chaired by University of Tasmania pro vice-chancellor for research, Paddy Nixon, and NBN Tasmania board member, Darren Alexander, among its seven members.
