Muscle Strength Testing Device Capstone Project
• Worked on a team of four engineers to design and develop a first iteration isometric muscle strength testing device. Our team completed the project on time and within our client’s budget.• Constructed device capable of continuously measuring and recording a patient’s strength data. The device is capable of accurately measuring force up to 100 lbf with margin of error within +/- 1-lbf• Utilized Arduino IDE, C programming, analog to digital converter, and a load cell sensor to measure and display forces exerted by the patient• Resolved system issues while improving its electrical design by incorporating an automatic tare function and new conditional statements for increased consistency and accuracy in patient’s strength data • Improved electrical design by using a proto shield to save space and create a more compact and robust design• Utilized SolidWorks, 3D printing and 80/20 metal parts during mechanical design. These software and design tools allowed for rapid prototyping, ease of design customization for future teams, and achieving sufficient strength to withstand applied forces.• Achieved client satisfaction through the design and delivery process through proactive communication and conducting frequent design reviews
Ocean Microplastics Internship Student
• Designed, built, and tested a new support frame that achieved 90% reduction of vibrations for an ADV (Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter). The new support frame also allowed for YZ traversing capability (driven by stepper ball screw motors) for applications required to measure 3D water velocity data.• Constructed the support frame using 80/20 t-slot framing and hardware along with custom machined parts that allowed for a flexible and efficient design.• Used MATLAB for stepper ball screw motor control to change positioning of the ADV.• Used various machining processes to fabricate custom parts necessary for support frame.• Completed a range of simultaneous job tasks to support and achieve the professor's academic, research and operational needs.
