Graduate Research Assistant

Bar Harbor, Maine

My research at The Jackson Laboratory was on integrating genomic data to build more predictive models of biology. I worked in the lab or Gregory Carter, PhD, but for my research projects, I collaborate with multiple labs across JAX campuses. My project focused on the integration, analysis, and visualization of genomic data in multiple biological contexts. In each, I utilized genetic variation or genetic perturbations and modeled their effects on that system. My hope is that by increasing our capacity to predict how genetic alterations will alter gene expression, researchers will better understand how genetic variants affect development, health, and disease.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Amherst, Massachusetts

I completed my undergraduate honors thesis under the supervision of Dr. Jesse Mager in the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. The Mager Lab investigates the epigenetic aspects of mouse development. My thesis focused on the role of a transcription factor SOX17 in embryonic implantation. By analyzing changing protein levels, gene expression, and protein localization, this study explored the mechanism by which SOX17 increases the receptivity of uterine tissue to embryo implantation.I also contributed to research with Dr. Alexandra Jesse in the LIPS Lab in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. The LIPS Lab is the Language, Intersensory Perception, and Speech (LIPS) lab at UMass Amherst. Directed by Dr. Alexandra Jesse, behavioral and neuropsychological methods are used to research speech perception and spoken-word recognition, in addition to intersensory perception, language processing, and learning processes as they relate to speech perception.
