Profile bio

About Alexander Henry

Born in Las Vegas, I learned Blackjack at the age of 3 when my mom went to dealer's school. In kindergarten I didn't know Go Fish and desperately tried to find casino chips for the other kids. I've taken road trips across the Western and Mid-Atlantic US, and across central Europe. In the virtual world I've driven stunt tracks, broken the sound barrier, taken rockets to other planets in our system, been to Sagittarius A* and back in FTL craft, and down 1,700m in the ocean. At University I took the Science part of Computer Science seriously. Because of timing and life situations, though, I haven't capitalized on it as much as many people. In casual conversation I sometimes find myself talking about what it was like when Windows was new and mocked, assembly language on VAX vs Intel, Neural Networks on MATLAB, testing random number generators, embedded development vs Python, and the trials of students first entering Bioinformatics. But anyone in those fields could outshine me any day. There is something untapped in me among those topics I tried to find and failed, and that's why I chose my second career as an Agilist. It started with learning Scrum as a developer, which I found amazing: we're encouraged to TALK to everyone while developing and RESOLVE conflicts between tasks before coding. Later, I got certified as a CSM and CSPO, and loved one SM gig but the other was Agile In Name Only where I learned some lessons. I've evolved yet again when learning the Program Management Institute adopted Agile into their framework. The more I read about Agile forms of development, the more I want to apply it and give developers an environment where they can thrive. So other engineers can execute much better than me, but then I can understand how and what they need to execute, and communicate those needs to others. Speaking of talking, in recent years I found a suppressed creative side. It started with random improv sessions at fantasy conventions, and blossomed into narration, streaming, and video editing. I DON'T make money on this, these industries are too competitive for me, but any meetings over Zoom or Teams or IRL large meetings I'm in will run smoothly, and training or other presentation I consider second nature. Oh, and I carry a Leatherman, so the AV equipment won't be broke for long. Thanks for reading all the way through this. If what I've said resonates with you, please call me for unique projects and Agile project management needs.

Listed skills include Perl, Mysql, Linux, Php, and 46 others.
