After GovTech, where next? #SpaceTech. Super exciting field. Massive market opportunity. I am taking the dynamism and energy that I brought to government to space.I am a global pioneer of government innovation and public entrepreneurship. I established the Scottish Government's CivTechⓇ Programme in 2015, comprising the world’s first digital public services accelerator and Europe’s first GovTech programme. I was hugely honoured to win the Leadership Award at the Scottish Public Service Awards in 2017 for this work. And I was delighted for the team to win Scottish Public Sector ICT Team of the Year 2018, and be shortlisted for the UK Civil Service Awards for Innovation 2018 as well as numerous other public sector / innovation / digital awards. In 2020 I was named as one of the Top 20 global leaders in GovTech. In Oct 2021, I was listed in Apolitical / World Economic Forum's Agile 50 list - 50 global leaders navigating disruption, and won the Apolitical Global Public Service Team of the Year 2021 (Climate category), announced in Jan 22. My passion lies in the opportunity to create public value through the development of collaborative networks. In 2020 I set up the CivTech Alliance (as of July 23 has rebranded to the GovTech Global Alliance), a global community of practice enabling governments to share insights and learnings, and actively collaborate with innovative global businesses. Our family of like-minded teams have delivered breakthroughs in public service delivery and pushed the boundaries of government innovation through programmes such as the COP26/27/28 Global Scale-up Programmes. Prior to joining government, I co-owned and ran my own digital agency for nearly 7 years delivering apps for Google, PayPal, Sony Ericsson, E.ON, Superdry and host of other brands and agencies. This experience of running a business grounded my mindset - and championship of - the public entrepreneurs: the persistence to move forward, the resilience to take the flak and the urgency to get results. Using an agile approach, I seek to shift public service mindset from a place of risk aversion to risk receptiveness. This has enabled public sector organisations to redefine their procurement methodologies, develop pathways to harness the power of digital innovation and create new products for the public sector that improve services, cut costs, free up resources, and improve the user experience. In the words of the Scottish author, Sir Walter Scott: "The will to do, and the soul to dare!"
