I was the process engineer for the Reactive Liquid Polymer (RLP) department at Huntsman (formerly Emerald Performance Materials).My role has provided me with a wealth of experience in many different chemical engineering aspects. I have obtained valuable experience learning and optimizing how unit operations run. I also have gained lots of exposure to troubleshooting unit operations and process equipment. This includes batch reactors, heat exchangers, pumps, control valves, separators, and continuous/batch distillation columns. My process engineering role has allowed me to learn the Emerson DeltaV control system. I have completed the DeltaV Systems Batch Implementation and Using DeltaV Operate training courses. This training along with learning how DeltaV works in the field, has allowed me the ability to create new recipes, new control modules, new equipment, and new control logic to improve the manufacturing process. I use lab data, DeltaV trends, field observations, operator knowledge, and Aspen data to evaluate the manufacturing process for inefficiencies and bottlenecks. This also has led to the creation of capital improvement projects that I have managed from start to finish. I am responsible for the process manufacturing and operating procedures, as well as training the operators using the management of change system. My role also has allowed me to gain experience in calculating mass balances for the process, manage off-grade material that is produced from the process, and enhance the process running schedule. I have also gained experience with decontaminating, rebuilding, commissioning, and starting up an entire process. I enjoy the challenge that comes with being in a twenty-four hour, three hundred sixty-five days a year, continuous process.

As a Technical Professional at Halliburton, I gained valuable knowledge for all aspects of the cementing product service line. While I was initially hired at the Homer City, Pennsylvania plant, I was offered and accepted a position at the new Zanesville, Ohio plant. My position allowed me to obtain experience of all equipment used in cementing operations, developing cost effective recommendations to customers that meet specific requirements and state regulations, managing lab testing to ensure specifications are upheld, operating multiple software programs to design and model cement jobs, and provide quality assurance for cementing services at rig sites. My teamwork skills were demonstrated by interacting with Halliburton’s laboratory technicians, account sales representatives, equipment maintenance team, field operators, and the customer on rig sites. I learned all of the responsibilities required of my role by successfully completing a yearlong training program that consisted of the following:• Performed work in Bulk Plant in order to gain information about the storage location of cement additives and the process of loading and mixing materials • Gained knowledge in Bulk Maintenance operations of the vehicles and float equipment tools used to perform cementing service field work• Completed rotation in Pump Shop in order to understand the parts and operation of the cement pumps used in the cementing process• Executed services on Rig Sites to obtain knowledge of operations and quality assurance methods used in field work• Performed testing in Cement Laboratory to learn all test procedures and requirements, as well as the role of all cement additives• Completed six weeks of training in Brighton, Colorado that focused on the technical aspects of cement processes including the slurry program design, software, and cement job calculations• Implemented a research and development project on a new cement additive to ascertain cost-benefit analysis

I was a part of a team that contributed to the research of hemoglobin based oxygen carriers. These carriers are seen as potential alternatives to red blood cells for the treatment of anemia and blood loss. Some responsibilities that I performed while completing this research were:• Handled and used chemicals such as NaBH4 and glutaraldehyde to polymerize hemoglobin• Monitored and set-up tangential flow filtration system used in hemoglobin extraction• Controlled blood gas analyzer to measure partial pressure of oxygen in hemoglobin• Collaborated on a team with other lab workers to obtain hemoglobin based oxygen carriers
