Working as a freelance journalist for Southern Lakes Newspapers has opened up so many points of conversation with diverse group of professionals, from authors and politicians, to city officials and the everyday citizen. While writing for both the Burlington Standard Press and the Waterford Post, I have covered school board meetings, human interest and features stories, construction projects, referendums, and breaking news.As a correspondent I curate and find story leads from talking with local townspeople or by digging online to find the latest happenings around both Waterford and Burlington. The pieces I write are written on a weekly basis with tight deadlines, usually covering multiple stories in tandem with one another.When the story has an applicable outlet I create a multi-media package that showcases the whole scope of the story with a photo or group of photos.

When I started at The Racquet, I dove into a brand new world of creation and collaboration. Through my time I began as a staff reporter, attending events and writing my weekly article to contribute to the paper. Quickly, I moved through the ranks into the News Editor position where I had a team of writers whose work encompassed the front page. I also took leadership as the Social Media editor, helping contribute to the redesign and refocusing of the website and social media accounts.I conceptualized a social media campaign idea titled “Humans of UW-L” that brought attention to individual students, staff and faculty every day, a creative program that netted the paper 500+ followers over a few weeks and still runs today.I also managed and collaborated with a team of staff reporters for the News section of the paper by presenting leads across campus and the La Crosse community, editing and creating the front-page presentation on a weekly basis -InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Microsoft Office were creative cornerstones of this position
