I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Biomedical Engineering at Boston University, focusing on developing advanced imaging and computational tools to study neurodegenerative diseases. My research centers on optimizing birefringence microscopy (BRM), a high-resolution imaging technique, for large-scale quantification of myelin pathology. By combining BRM with deep learning, I aim to characterize myelin damage in aging and injury models and evaluate therapeutic interventions, such as extracellular vesicle treatments, for myelin repair.Key contributions include designing an automated BRM system capable of high-throughput imaging, developing metrics for quantifying myelin integrity, and applying these techniques to rhesus monkey models of age-related cognitive decline and ischemic stroke. My work bridges optical engineering, neuroscience, and computational analysis to provide scalable solutions for studying the role of myelin in neurological disorders and assessing the efficacy of regenerative therapies.This research aims to establish BRM as a versatile tool for investigating myelin changes across diverse diseases, paving the way for new insights into brain function and repair mechanisms.

As a Master’s student in Biomedical Engineering at Boston University, I designed and developed a miniaturized Elastic Scattering Spectroscopy (ESS) system to address critical challenges in oral cancer diagnostics. This innovative, portable device enables high-resolution imaging of resected tissue margins, aiming to improve surgical outcomes by providing real-time insights during operations.My work involved integrating hardware and software to create a low-cost, modular ESS system capable of imaging areas as small as 100 μm resolution, validated for use in clinical studies. The project encompassed spectrometer calibration, algorithm development, and custom electronics for precise scanning, all housed in a user-friendly interface. This system bridges the gap between current diagnostic limitations and the need for accessible, advanced cancer imaging tools.Through this research, I honed my skills in optical system design, algorithm development, and interdisciplinary collaboration, with a focus on creating impactful biomedical technologies.
