What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question?...By now you are experiencing one of my favorite pastimes: intellectual humor. Other things I enjoy are watching sports, playing baseball, listening to good music, and singing. However, one thing that is extremely important to me is accountability. It is my strong belief that a person, when faced with an important decision either privately and professionally, must consider all of the effects of all possible courses of action, weigh them appropriately, and and act accordingly in a responsible manner. This way, that person will be aware of all possible consequences or backlash that could result from that decision, and if these consequences are unfavorable, then perhaps a different path should be followed.Yet accountability is not simply just doing the right thing at the right time; it also involves being reliable. One of the most important things that my years as a high school baseball player has taught me is that reliability and consistency are extremely valuable characteristics. In baseball, all 9 players have their own job that only they can do, and the team cannot be successful if even one of them does an unsatisfactory job. Therefore, it is essential to do the job that is asked efficiently and effectively whenever called upon.Accountability is one of the main reasons why I, a junior at UMass, Amherst, found that accounting was the right path for me. Not only is the work of accountants relied upon by many to help make timely decisions both within the company and in the market, the responsibility of making sure the numbers accurately represent reality also falls on the accountants' shoulders. It is imperative that accountants act responsibly and are reliable. Accountability is one of the most important traits that an accountant can have, and I feel that accountability is one of the main things that I can bring to the table.
