My primary focus for Nestle's Canadian operations was to establish enterprise risk management. I was able to bench mark their cost of risk and improve it compared to industry standards and targeted the best in class. The key parts were understanding factors that would not only expose the company's financial position (media, public, customers and vendors, P&L, BS, cash flow, market share, energy, interest rates, cybersecurity, technology, etc.) but ensuring growth even after risks occur. Risk needs to be defined for each company, most are common while some are unique, however given the globally connected business framework and supply chain, solutions do not always rely on insurance related products alone.
