Alex is one of a unique group within IBM characterized by the ability to break conventional rules and foster creativity. In IBM terms, a "wild duck", given exceptional freedom and resources to be a creative and innovative force in developing, taking to market and managing new products and ideas. His work includes ground breaking solutions in the areas of AI - first cognitive tutor for textbooks and early childhood education, and first personalized learning assistant for K12 teachers; Blockchain - first platform to verify learning and skills credentials to transform talent acquisition and the NY State Excelsior Pass for Covid vaccine verification; HR Technology - first AI solution to transform an organization's HR business processes. These innovations were done in collaboration with Apple, Sesame Street, Pearson, the White House, and many other important organizations.Building these innovations required consulting with clients on transformational change aligned to their business objectives, creation of strategic partnerships for go to market and technology collaboration, building and leading product development and sales teams, and being the lead spokesperson, and salesman, for these innovations. His “wild duck” career required he write and speak about IBM’s work on these innovations. Highlights include presentations at the White House, Harvard and Columbia University Schools of Eduction, SXSW, the Consumer Electronics Show, HR Tech, and ASU GSV. His publications have addressed topics including Learning and Employment Records, the blockchain revolution in Higher Education, and a better way to manage personal identity in a digital world. He has been frequently quoted in trade publications on a range of topics related to technological innovations.
