About Alexander Persons
I graduated from the University of Maryland School of Social Work and School of Medicine on 5/18/18 with a dual-degree MSW/MPH. I was issued my Maryland LGSW license 6/7/18. I have special interest in working with people in a hospital setting who are struggling with mental health issues.For my advanced year field placement at UMSSW I work as a clinical social work intern at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in the Intensive Outpatient Program-Adult of the Community Psychiatry Program. My primary responsibilities are as facilitator of four CBT, DBT, and mindfulness group sessions per week, and carrying a caseload of 2-3 clients with whom I meet 1-2 times per week as their individual therapist. My responsibilities also include full client encounter documentation in Epic EMR, completing client intakes and discharge (including suicide assessment), forming and updating client treatment plans, completing client insurance authorizations, measuring client progress and outcomes, and participation in individual and group supervision.I also have experience as a Forensic Social Work Intern at the Baltimore County Office of the Maryland Public Defender and continuing after completion of the internship as a Forensic Panel Social Worker in the same office. As an integrated member of the defense team I worked with both juvenile and adult clients in District and Circuit Court to ensure that indigent people had access to high quality legal representation.For the academic year 2016-2017 I was selected to participate in the Public Health Social Work Leadership Scholars Program at the University of Maryland School of Social Work. For the academic year 2017-2018 I was chosen as a Behavioral Health Workforce Integration Service and Education Fellow.Below is a link to an Op-Ed I had published in the Baltimore Sun on January 6th, 2016.
